first Band gig for 2008 Posted: Jan 4, 2008

I've organized a full band show in Annapolis on Saturday Jan 12, 2008. Its the greatest little local live music venue in town, a haven for jazz and oldtime artists! I'm honored to get to play there, and excited to have access to a quality baby grand piano for those more mellow moments in my set. Hope to see everyone there!!

listen to this! Posted: Sep 6, 2006

Hey, I'm uploading a bunch of stuff for folks to sneak an ear-full. I'm inspired by the egoless offerings of youtube vlogs so much that - heck! - if you like my music anyway, which is why you are even bothering to read this, then you probably won't mind the blemishes of these improptu recordings of some of my songs. Nothing totally new, but my woman-stop-dating-your-ambitions anthem "Build Your Empire" is on there with a full band, though not full lyrics, as well as my best solo recording of the little ditty "Promise of Snow" and the new, sparsely worded piano-pop tunes "8 Lane Road" and "Take Your Time" are sounding mighty fine with the whole band. Dad aptly sent the mp3's to me, all titled "Basement Demo". At least, there's a smidgen for you inbetween shows! See this Saturday! http://www.sarahfridrich.com/events.

September is for S! Posted: Aug 31, 2006

Somber September seeping in. I love alliteration! duh!

Hello, lovelies, my friends! Mark Sylvester, bass player extraordinaire, and I rocked the 2006 South Riding, VA Battle of the Bands last Saturday and won 2nd place in the contest, which we didn't quite realize how serious of a contest it was . . . um, we didn't think there'd be PRIZE MONEY! Cool! Thanks to all involved, especially joanie and bill for connecting me to the opportunity!

Worked on guitar tracks for Deck of Cards today and started on the scratch vocals. No school. No classes. No rules. All grown-up now - Time to make an album!

Artists friends kick my ass Posted: Jul 13, 2006

So, here's a new post to my webblog. Helloooo, Fans! ... Why is it everyone i know is an ARTIST and/or self-employed? We're flocking together, i guess, to protect ourselves against the mighty eagle predator of 'what do you do for a living?' Thanks to members of the flock I'm finally posting and sending out promo emails for my gig and WRITING NEW SONGS . . . oh, yeah and vacuuming my room. ... THIS WEEK at Music Camp, I'm having a blast teaching some teenagers about jazz voicings and even song construction. Phew! I guess I learned something in music school! ... Its the middle of HOT here in mary's land and I can't wait to play a cathartic MIDSUMMER SHOW (7/22/06) with dad and adam . . . and some mystery guest artists. And, then I can't wait to head up north for some dancing, singing and ocean gazing in august. ... i promise to post more regularly from now on!
love~sarah

Welcome back to Life! Posted: May 18, 2006

Finally, I am done being an undergraduate! its been years. I think i've finally out grown 'college', but grad school is starting to look interesting. i can't help it! i thirst for knowledge . . . but for now i hope to enjoy the last sprigs of springtime, here in the EAst. As a fitting coda to this whole experience I got a call for an emerging artist opening slot the afternoon i finished my last exams!! Keep your ears and eyes open for NEWS and Gigs!!

important info Posted: Mar 22, 2006

It may seem impossible to navigate this site . . I hope not, but Here are some tips:

If you go to "songs" and click on a title you will get the complete lyrics.

To find out more about a Show click on "live shows" and then click "view" next to the date or show you are interested in. I will always list the website of the restaurant or venue where I am playing, as well as the phone number, so you can get the best directions possible and check out the place ahead of time. If there is no website, I will put written directions in this section instead.

I'll be getting back into school next week, so this is likely my last post for awhile. Summer will be my harvest time . . . time to record and bring you the best of what I can make out of my life and the music that spawned from it. . .
peace and blessings - sarah

drivin' in my car . . . Posted: Mar 17, 2006

Can I NOT do that anymore? So, in august I lost my voice a week before the gig. Tonight, I am recovering from a major-minor accident. (music students may appreciate the modern jazz harmony reference . . . ) I didn't like that chord for awhile, but I've come to understand it. . . . But, I digress . . .I am very sore from the accident. I am in a nice rental car, but when my friend deborah finds out its the same as her current chassie, she'll REALLY be ready to upgrade.

What have i decided to do, now that I am just plum tired of the car-culture that is a dangerous treacherous awful world of collective mental illness? Well . . . Sundays are officially my days of rest and I am sticking to that!! But, really . . . lame duck of an activist that I am . . . for now I can only perform my "look both ways" song about road-kill and hope that art provokes thought. . .

Hope to see some people at 49 West next Friday. love you all!

greeting from the halls of a college of music Posted: Oct 13, 2005

I'm studying diatonic modulation and chord scale theory this week and all about how beethoven is the unbeatable one and monteverdi was a tourtured artist just like the rest of us and practicing classical piano technique and learning to write in three parts for bari, alto and trumpet so . . . I look forward to dipping into the small precious world of my dreams where i'm on a large porch overlooking the most perfect valley as the sun turns the grass crimson and songs are for making love and music is for dancing to
